Minnesota Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan is another rising star in the Democratic Party we all need to keep an eye on in the coming years.
Minnesota is grateful to have two incredible progressive leaders in Governor Tim Walz, and US Senate and mental health champion Tina Smith. Granted there will be a time when one of them will retire in the years to come, it will be up to Minnesotans to ensure they have a leader who stays in the game.
That is what Lt. Governor Flanagan does. She is a longtime child advocate, vouching for improvements in the child welfare system, bettering access to childcare and eldercare, and supporting public education. Having known the challenges of living in tribal communities, she has been a vocal voice for environmental justice, tribal sovereignty, tackling domestic violence, and solving crimes involving murdered and missing indigenous women. She has is a strong voice for universal healthcare, with a focus on a variety of health coverage disparities.
In the past 6 years, Flanagan and Governor Walz have pushed a variety of progressive policies to help working families and take on special interests, from universal school meals, a renewable energy portfolio, a child tax credit, strong labor protections, a higher minimum wage, and paid leave, to expanding voting rights, protecting LGBTQ+ children, and codifying needed reproductive access and gun safety laws. The past legislative session was cited as one of the most productive in Minnesota history, in no small part because of the leadership and planning of Governor Walz and Lt. Governor Flanagan.
Peggy Flanagan will easily take these ideals either to the US Senate or to the Governor's mansion in St. Paul. I am confident she will be the leader she has always been and is, and I hope you have that same confidence too.
I hope you will sign this petition to show your support in the years ahead for her political career and for truly unique and dynamic progressive leadership.
