Petition Against the Elimination of DEI Requirements at UNC

We, the undersigned, are students, parents, tax-payers, and supporters of the University of North Carolina system. We stand for a UNC that promotes inclusivity, equal opportunities, and an educational environment that equips future systems leaders and providers with the knowledge and tools to prevent and eliminate institutional inequities.

Recent decisions to remove DEI requirements from hiring and admission processes critically undermine our ability to foster an inclusive community and dilute our commitment to social justice. These initiatives are essential not only for personal growth but also for cultivating leaders who can navigate and rectify systemic disparities in any professional field improving those systems for all.

We urge the UNC Board of Governors to reconsider and reverse the decision to eliminate these vital DEI requirements. By fostering an environment rich in diversity, equity, and inclusion, UNC can continue to be a beacon of progressive education and leadership in societal change.
