PETITION TO AMEND STALLINGS PICKLEBALL COURT LIGHTING ORDINANCE

We, the undersigned residents, respectfully request that the Stallings Town Council reconsider the recently adopted prohibition on lighting pickleball courts.

We support reasonable regulations protecting neighboring residents from noise and excessive lighting. However, a complete prohibition on court lighting is unnecessarily restrictive, particularly when pickleball play is permitted until 9:00 p.m.

We ask the Town to allow properly shielded, downward-directed lighting that does not create glare or spillover onto neighboring properties, with all court lighting turned off by 9:00 p.m.

This reasonable change would protect surrounding neighborhoods while allowing residents to safely enjoy healthy, inclusive recreation during the hours already permitted by the Town

Why is this important?

Why join the campaign:
  • Loss of evening access for most players
  • Perceived unfairness or inconsistency
  • Negative impact on local recreation, health, and social life
  • Fear of setting a precedent
  • Belief that lighting problems can be solved without a ban
  • Neighborhood compromise is possible
  • Concern that the ordinance is driven by a small group
