There are many ideas floating around the Township that will be more costly and more expensive to maintain. I say keep it simple, plant a mature northern red oak tree (NJ state tree) where the mighty oak tree and Eagle once stood for a few centuries, and restore the historic charm and natural beauty to the area.
Why is this important?
I live directly across from the site in the red house on the corner of Flocktown and Schooleys Mtn roads. The Eagle has already cost the Township several thousand dollars to study the tree's decay and overall condition not including the cost of insurance. The cost of restoring the Eagle, making a new base and insuring it at the old site will likely exceed $100,000. The time has come to cut our expenses, but still honor the area's historic charm and our Veteran's, and re-plant a new tree on the site for our kids and grandkids to always enjoy.
