President Obama: Please consider a nominee for Secretary of Defense who is not as hostile toward Israel as former Senator Chuck Hagel.
Why is this important?
Like many American Jews and long-time Israel supporters, I am very concerned about the possibility of Chuck Hagel becoming Secretary of Defense. While in the Senate, he consistenly voted against Israel's interests. For example, in 2000, he was one of only four Senators who refused to sign a Senate letter in support of Israel. I believe that President Obama can do much better, both for the United States and for one of our closest allies, with someone else.
