Prevent Isolation - Promote Independence- Support LATAN

"I, the undersigned, ask that the Louisiana House of Representatives and Senate attach an amendment to HB1 that provides funding for the Louisiana Assistive Technology Access Network (LATAN) for the 2012-2013 Fiscal Year, and that Governor Jindal retain this funding request when he signs the bill into law as LATAN meets the Governor's criteria as set forth for non governmental organizations.

LATAN provides assistive technology services statewide, and is the sole source for these services in Louisiana.

LATAN provides services to people of all ages, with all types of disabilities, service-related injuries, and limitations due to aging.

LATAN provides opportunities for people to try out devices before purchase and to have access to previously owned devices, thereby saving public and private funding sources scarce resources.

Devices available for trial include those for vision, hearing, dexterity, computer access, mobility, recreation and lei sure.

LATAN assists people in becoming educated and employed, in living where they want to live, and in being involved in community activities"

Why is this important?

Will you sign my petition to request the Louisiana House of Representatives and the Louisiana Senate to insert LATAN in HB1 as an amendment for financial support? The state funds will support LATAN to deliver Assistive Technology services to disabled individuals and to those who live with functional limitations.
