Prosecute the Use of Torture by US Government
The recent Senate Intelligence Report on the use of torture by the CIA post 9-11 urges the Justice Department to investigate and prosecute those responsible, to prohibit such actions from being repeated in the future. The use of torture (and the Committee concludes that it was torture) is prohibited by international law in the Geneva Conventions. We are a signatory to that law and we, as a country, are not above it. We urge swift and committed action on the basis of this report by our system of justice.
Why is this important?
Our standing as a nation of laws depends on our willingness to hold ourselves accountable. If we ignore this report, we have lost all integrity as a country.
