To: Johnson County Election Commissioner Connie Schmidt

Protect our Polls!

The Johnson County Election Commission has unilaterally decided to close eight early voting locations in the county, potentially impacting 460,000 registered voters. Many of the locations are in densely populated areas and leave only three locations accessible by bus. Olathe, the fourth largest city in Kansas, now has had locations cut in half.

The Board of County Commissioners has already approved budgets to fund all the locations. They were not consulted on the decision or the reasoning behind it and the public was not notified.

Why is this important?

Our goal should be to increase voting access, not diminish it. By disenfranchising voters and making early voting difficult, we will decrease voter turnout and increase the stress already placed on over-full location and overworked election staff.
