Protect Peace Corps Volunteers

As your constituent, I urge you to support a provision in the State and Foreign Operations Appropriations bill that will allow coverage of abortion care for volunteers who have survived rape or incest, or whose lives are in danger.

Peace Corps volunteers often face sexual violence during their service abroad. If a woman in the Peace Corps becomes pregnant as a result of rape, our country shouldn't turn its back - we should make sure she has coverage to be safe and get the quality health care she needs.

Thank you for supporting this much-needed legislation.

Why is this important?

Right now, if a woman serving abroad in the Peace Corps is raped and needs abortion care, she’s on her own.

That’s because federal law does not allow abortion coverage for women in the Peace Corps – even in cases of rape, incest, or when her very life is threatened.

The U.S. Senate is leading the charge to end this inhumane policy, but without support from the House this outdated rule will continue to unfairly punish women in the Peace Corps.

Tell your representative to cover abortion care for Peace Corps volunteers who’ve survived rape or incest, or whose very life is threatened during pregnancy.
