Protect Ukrainians in the U.S. from Deportation – Extend Their Legal Status!

We, the undersigned, urgently call on the U.S. government to protect Ukrainian refugees from deportation and extend their legal status in the United States.

Following Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine, thousands of Ukrainians sought refuge in the U.S. through humanitarian parole and Temporary Protected Status (TPS). They have since built lives, contributed to their communities, and remained hopeful for a peaceful future. However, recent reports indicate that President Donald Trump intends to revoke these protections, putting them at risk of deportation.

Deporting Ukrainians would be a grave injustice. Ukraine remains under attack, with ongoing destruction and humanitarian crises. Forcing refugees to return to a war-torn country violates America's humanitarian commitments and endangers their safety.

We urge President Trump, Congress, Representatives, and the Department of Homeland Security to take immediate action by:

  • Extending and redesignating Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Ukrainians to ensure they can legally remain in the U.S.
  • Providing a pathway to permanent residency for those displaced by the war.
  • Blocking any attempt to revoke existing protections and preventing the deportation of vulnerable refugees.
The United States has long stood as a beacon of hope and safety for those fleeing war and persecution. We must uphold these values by ensuring that Ukrainians who sought refuge here are not forced into danger.

We demand that you act now to protect Ukrainian refugees and prevent their deportation.

Why is this important?

1. Ukrainians Face Immediate Threat of Deportation

If deported, Ukrainians would be sent back to a war zone where they face bombings, economic collapse, and human rights violations. Many have already lost their homes and loved ones, and forcing them to return would put them at grave risk.

2. America’s Humanitarian Commitments

The United States has historically protected refugees fleeing war and persecution. Sending Ukrainians back contradicts our values of providing safety to those in need. The U.S. has granted Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to Ukrainians, but if it is revoked, thousands will face deportation.

3. Ukrainians Contribute to the U.S. Economy & Society

Ukrainian refugees are highly educated, hardworking and contribute to the American economy. Many are working in healthcare, education, technology, and service industries. They pay taxes, start businesses, and enrich their communities. Deporting them would hurt local economies and disrupt communities.

4. Ukraine Still Needs U.S. Support

The U.S. has invested billions in helping Ukraine fight for its survival. Deporting Ukrainian refugees weakens that commitment and plays into Russia’s goal of destabilizing the Ukrainian people.

5. This Sets a Dangerous Precedent for Future Refugees

If Ukrainians lose protection, it sends a message that the U.S. cannot be relied upon as a safe haven for war refugees. This could weaken America’s global leadership in humanitarian aid and make it harder for future refugees to receive protection.
