Immediately pass a law that grants furloughed government workers the same protections from collection activities as those declaring bankruptcy. This would protect these workers from eviction, foreclosure, repossession and aggressive collection measures. They have done nothing wrong and their lives should not be permanently altered by this elimination of their income.
Why is this important?
I am not a government worker, nor am I related to or personally know any. I’m starting this petition because I lived paycheck to paycheck for many years, as many of these effected workers do. None of them should have to fear losing their home, car or even good credit due to this or any future shutdown.
