CNN has seen a major swing towards Trump since 2024 started with more critical news pieces on Joe Biden and less negative, more "sane washed," coverage of Donald Trump. This is mostly led by WB/Discovery CEO David Zaslav, who favored a President not named Biden who would allow more media deregulation and "mergers & acquisitions."
In making this general move, CNN sidelined or removed major Trump critics who were on the program from the first go-around, among them Jim Acosta and John Harwood. They also sidelined others like CNN's top Washington correspondent and data analyst John King (also a Rhode Islander).
While it is claimed John King wanted to go all across the country, I highly doubt that lousy excuse. John King has been on less CNN news programs overall since leaving Inside Politics, with rare appearances reserved for party conventions, presidential addresses, and Election Night results, being sent by CNN instead to cover Canada and parts of the country even after the election cycle ended.
It is clear John King's sidelining is another attempt to appease Donald Trump.
