Racism at Creekside
There has been instance after instance, throughout the entire school year where kids have openly used racial slurs. There are several loopholes that are in place which allow kids to not only use these racial slurs openly but to get away with it, without any consequences or repercussions. We need to fix the loopholes and there needs to be zero tolerance with a clear cut consequence. We also need the problem to be acknowledged by administration with yearly school-wide assemblies where administration addresses racism, how it affects people, what’s activity being done about it, what students can do to help, and where students can turn for help.
Why is this important?
Racism is creating a hostile, uncomfortable, and unwelcoming environment for certain kids. All kids deserve to feel welcomed, comfortable and safe. This has gone on for too long and has gone too far. We need to show these kids that they have support, they’re being heard and something is being done!
