Ratify the Equal Rights Amendment!
We urge you to help complete the process of ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment, which will meet the required approval of 38 states next year when Virginia ratifies it. You can help by passing H.J.Res.79, which eliminates the 1970s-era time limit on ratifying the ERA.
Why is this important?
At a time when Donald Trump is rolling back protections against sex discrimination, the need for the Equal Rights Amendment is more important than ever. Thanks to recent elections, it could finally happen.
For the last forty years the Equal Rights Amendment, outlawing discrimination on the basis of sex, has been stalled just short of the 38 states needed to be ratified as part of the Constitution. There's just one more state needed, and Virginia's new majority has vowed to pass the Equal Rights Amendment when they take office in early 2020.
Congress just took a big step to help. The House Judiciary Committee just voted to repeal an old law that had required the ERA to be ratified by 1982. That law may not be enforceable. But Congress should repeal it anyway. Can you help add public pressure to ensure the full Congress helps finally get the ERA ratified?
