Rationale for Action Against Islamic State In Syria (ISIS)

Before the United States engages in further military action, I want you to answer my question: Does the US have specific intelligence to strongly suggest that we need to take defensive action against ISIS using our Department of Defense?

Why is this important?

The US has been at war in the region since 9/11 and little has changed. Why is the Middle East a US concern? What will military interventions accomplish that wasn't accomplished in more than a decade of fighting? Are we profiteering from the conflict or hoping to do so via arms sales or control of oil production?
