Remember Berta Caceres: Suspend Military Aid to Honduras!
Co-sponsor HR1299, the Berta Caceres Human Rights In Honduras Act. Suspend military & police aid to Honduras.
Why is this important?
On March 2, 2016, environmental activist Berta Caceres was assassinated in Honduras. Leaked court documents suggest Berta's murder was planned by military intelligence specialists linked to the country’s US–trained special forces. Berta's family and human rights organizations have called for an independent international investigation into Berta's murder, but these demands have so far been rebuffed.
On March 2, 2017 Rep. Hank Johnson (GA) re-introduced the Berta Caceres Human Rights In Honduras Act, calling for the suspension of U.S. military and police aid to Honduras until human rights violations committed by Honduran security forces cease and their perpetrators have been brought to justice. There are now 40 co-sponsors of the bill.
