Remove Blackface from "La Casa de Papa" soap opera
In the soap opera, La Casa de Papa, Episode 4 (Հորանց տունը) (segment 20:19-21:23), produced by Deputati Show, blackface has been utilized on Armenian actors with the help of dark make-up.Deputati Show mocked the plea to remove the offensive segments from the show.
Why is this important?
Blackface is offensive not only due to its origins in the nineteenth century when white actors during minstrel shows would use black paint to mock enslaved black individuals exploited in plantations by depicting them as outlandish and outside the human realm, but also due to the fact that blackface and systemic racism are intertwined and are undoubtedly linked to Jim Crow segregation laws. In showcasing blackface and disseminating it, the promoters make a decisively anti-black and dehumanizing statement.
