Rep. Thompson: Hold Hearings into ICE's Rogue Treatment of Yoel Alonso Leal and Other Asylum Seekers
We call on you to formally inquire into the egregious conduct of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) toward Yoel Alonso Leal and other asylum seekers and call agency leadership to testify before the Committee in a hearing.
In its treatment of Yoel, ICE violated federal laws, congressional norms, and the agency's own policies. We urge you to exercise your oversight powers to get to the bottom of how atrocities like Yoel's detention and deportation happened, and to hold this rogue agency's leaders accountable.

Why is this important?
Yoel Alonso Leal is a loving father, devoted husband, and cancer patient who should be preparing for the fight of his life with a team of doctors and his family by his side. Instead he spent over ten months being shuttled through a series of secretive ICE detention centers, his health rapidly deteriorating, before being deported on September 12 to Cuba—a country where he fears for his life.
We cannot let ICE destroy lives like this with impunity and demand Congress hold ICE to account.
