Rep. Waters, it's time to overturn Citizens United
I urge you to stand up for our democracy and co-sponsor an amendment to overturn Citizens United and rein in corporate power in our democracy. Co-sponsoring any legislation demanding an amendment would be huge.
Why is this important?
In the wake of Citizens United and the rise of Super PACs and dark money, it has never been so clear that we simply cannot solve our most urgent problems, we cannot build an economy that works for all, we cannot renew the promise of the American Dream until we free our democracy from the hidden influence of money by billionaires and multinational corporations and put it back in the hands of the People.
We ask the U.S. Congress to pass a constitutional amendment that in effect reverses the 2010 Supreme Court's Citizens United decision by clarifying that:
1. Corporations are not entitled to the same rights as natural persons
2. Money is not free speech.
