Central American refugees, mothers and children, are arriving at our "shores" the way refugees did during WW1 and WW2. We should give them shelter and the opportunity we gave to Europeans. The Statue of Liberty says" Bring me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses, yearning to breathe free...send these, the homeless, tempest tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door." Where is the compassion of those picketing along the American Border? Their ancestors weren't born here. They shame us.
Why is this important?
I'm ashamed of the Americans who demonstrate against mothers and children who made a difficult, frightening journey to arrive at our door, the land of the free. We should make room for them as those before us made room for us.
