The City of Arvada plans to give away land valued at over $1.1 million for only $10. In return, the City allowed the developer of a large, rental apartment building to receive an additional $1,000,000+ in tax incentives and other financial benefits. To enable this building, the historic Masonic Lodge will be demolished. The City is violating its own design guidelines for Olde Town, requesting waivers on 30 counts, including: limiting buildings in Olde Town to two stories, incorporating building design that complements the architecture of Olde Town, and minimizing the impact on historic McIlvoy Park.
