Save Edgemoor Swimming Pool
We the undersigned call on the City of Wichita to repair and re-open Edgemoor swimming pool.
We ask the City Manager to reconsider the decision to remove the existing pool in order to construct a Splash Pad in its place. We ask that the city put forward an alternate proposal that will ensure the renovation and re-opening of Edgemoor swimming pool for community use.

Why is this important?
All children deserve the opportunity to learn to swim. It is lifesaving. Community pools are essential for teaching water skills and safety. Wichita families need access to affordable local swimming pools for recreation and learning.
The City's plan to fill in Edgemoor Pool and construct a Splash Pad is unwise. Splash pads do not provide opportunities for children or adults to learn to swim. Splash pads do not provide bodies of water viable for teaching even minimal water survival skills. Splash Pads do not serve all age groups.
Edgemoor swimming pool serves a large population in Northeast Wichita. Edgemoor swimming pool is well located in a large park at 9th and Edgemoor with a recreation center, fields, tennis and pickleball courts, and a nearby library. It is also a summer free lunch program site and meal site for the elderly. Since the City closed the pool in 2012, citizens are underserved. The other public pool in walking distance of Edgemoor Park has now become overcrowded, and has to turn people away.
Renovate and re-open the Edgemoor swimming pool!
