Save Moxley Park

PRESERVE MOXLEY PARK as an important green space for the residents of Watertown!

Watertown is currently planning to build a new high school, which is needed for our students. During construction, the Watertown School Building Committee is proposing to use Moxley Park to house modular units as swing space for over 500 students. A parking lot will need to be constructed in the park. It is estimated that this temporary location will be used for close to 4 years and much of the park will be destroyed.

Moxley Park is important to the community and should not be sacrificed for temporary swing space for the high school building project. Another location that is more appropriate and does not involve the loss of green space should be used.

Why is this important?

1) Moxley Park is an important green space for Watertown. There are few parks and fields for Watertown residents to enjoy and it should be protected.
2) The swing site facilities needed to accommodate students during construction of the high school are extensive and include buildings to serve more than 500 students and a parking lot. The duration of the project is for more than 4 years. This will significantly impact the park and the effects may not be reversible.
3) The proposed swing site is next to the Watertown Middle School. The area already struggles to accommodate the influx of students during drop off and pick up times. It is not at all clear how such an increase in traffic will impact the local neighborhood.
