Save OUR Scarsdale Neighborhoods from Demolition and Overdevelopment

Photo by Matt Jones on Unsplash
We, the undersigned, request the Mayor and Trustees of the Village of Scarsdale to adopt a resolution imposing a six month moratorium on all development in the village and on all teardowns. During that period, we ask the Mayor and Village Board of Trustees to hold public work sessions on this subject, and to engage consultants and law firms as needed to modernize our codes and strengthen our governance to preserve our neighborhoods from overdevelopment.

Why is this important?

Our neighborhood homes are being systematically dismantled by over zealous builders and contractors without regard to history, aesthetics, community and sense of space.
NOW IS THE TIME TO STEP UP and make your opinions known

Dear Neighbor,
The fight against over development continues.
The Planning Board meeting on September 19, at 7:00pm is for the Planning Board to hear comments from the public regarding a plan to build 8 large new houses in a wooded and swampy area. This is the only item on the agenda for the Planning Board on Sept. 19. Project details are available from the Planning Board website.
The project is called 80 Garden Road. It is proposing to build on an 8 acre wooded site that has been undisturbed for centuries. It lies between Cushman Road and Garden Road, next to the water tower. The neighborhood has problems with flooding and a very high water table. The developer wants to clear-cut 400 trees and raise the property 4 feet by bringing in approximately 2,000 truckloads of fill. The developer proposes to add a new private underground water collection and retention system. Really ?
Keep the good fight
Jim

SCARSDALE PUBLIC HEARING SLATED FOR MAY 28 @ 8PM re LAND USE REFORMS
Last week the Scarsdale Village BOT heard a proposal for the initial phase of land use management reform from the consultant firm BFJ. The plan laid out ideas focusing on the following: site plan review, open space requirements, setbacks, floor area ratio (FAR), impervious surfaces, lot coverage, and building height

While the proposal addresses many of the issues the community has raised, this is your opportunity to question the board and share your thoughts and concerns.

The plan proposal can be reviewed at this link: https://www.scarsdale.com/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Agenda/_05142024-1272

Also Scarsdale 10583 provides an excellent synopsis.

80 Garden is back! The proposed 8 home subdivision won't go away. It is the sole topic at a Planning Board meeting on Wednesday 3/20 @ 7PM. Please mark your calendars and show up!!!
Consider the following:
1.Six acres will be clear-cut and over 400 trees will be felled;
2.Tons of fill will be trucked onto the site (2500 trips) in order to raise the topography by 4 feet so that a stormwater drainage system can be installed above the existing high groundwater table.

The Moratorium was approved by the Scarsdale Board of Trustees in a 6-1 vote that occurred on Tuesday January 9,2024. A positive first step but still a lot of work to do! Scarsdale 10583 does a good job of summation along with access to the moratorium document.
