Preserve the Iraqi Mandaean culture, heritage, and existence by funding a Mandaean language school and programs for Iraqi Mandaean refugees to return to Iraq. The United States has a responsibility to this community that is almost extinct because of the United States' war and occupation.
Why is this important?
The Mandaean community in Iraq faces extinction. Out of more than 60,000 Mandaeans in Iraq in the early 1990s, only 5,000 to 7,000 remain, most having fled since 2003 in the face of murder, kidnapping, rape, eviction, and forced conversion. We're calling on the United States government to help preserve the Iraqi Mandaean culture, heritage, and existence by funding a Mandaean language school and programs to assist Iraqi Mandaean refugees in returning to Iraq. The United States has a responsibility to this community that is almost extinct because of the United States' war and occupation.
