Koalas are in trouble. The recent Australian bushfires (fueled in part by climate change), killed over 1,000 koalas and destroyed 1-2 million hectares of their habitat. Koalas are now considered a vulnerable species under federal environmental law in the states of Queensland and New South Wales where bushfires have wiped out much of their habitat.
Koalas need all the help they can get to recover-especially to protect their habitat (since habitat loss is their biggest threat). The Koala Protection Act will protect habitats and trees vital to koalas as well as protect koalas from hunting.
