  • Do attend the swearing in ceremony but turn your backs!
Many say do not attend the swearing in of Electoral College President on January 20th 2017. Instead DO ATTEND IN DROVES but to protest turn your backs to the ceremony. That will be a bigger statement than not attending. First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out. Because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out. Because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out. Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak for me. (Poem written by Pastor Martin Niemoller about the cowardice of German (now read U.S.) intellectuals following the Nazis' rise to power and subsequent purging of their chosen targets, group after group.)

  • People of the Village of Harlem and Community Preservationists Demand that Harlem's 7th Avenue Re...
Adam Clayton Powell Jr., Boulevard (ACPB), also known as 7th Avenue, is the last Grand Boulevard of Harlem. It has four lanes in each direction (one for parking and three for driving). It has the most contiguous landscape and skyline associated to the Harlem Renaissance period. The physical character of the boulevard is close to the way it looked during the time of Harlem's Historic Parades and Historic Black Men in Movement Rallies held on the boulevard led by Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X and other great men of color. The boulevard's current physical character and ambiance is essential to ACPB as a Historic Resource for Harlem residents and friends of Harlem. Today, people draw from that inspiration. The African American Day, African and Harlem Mother's Day Parades follow in the tradition of Harlem's Historic Parades. The same is with Activism. The New York City Department of Transportation's plans to alter the physical character of the boulevard would jeopardize its historical integrity. Alleging that such changes are in the name of safety because it has become a dangerous boulevard when the DOT has failed to maintain the simplest things to keep the boulevard safe does not fly, i.e., trimming the excessive foliage from trees blocking lights and other traffic controlling devices and repainting lane markers, which in many areas have faded. Moreover, they want to do this without due process of law. We the undersigned petitioners DEMAND that the NYC DOT stop the proposed renovations of Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd in August. The DOT must make the recommended maintenance corrections first before it can talk about other safety measures. We further Demand that the NYC DOT hold community town-hall hearings first, allowing the public at large to decide any changes to Adam Clayton Powell, Jr., Blvd. The changes that the DOT has in mind would affect the historical integrity of the boulevard.

  • Alumni for University of Colorado Boulder Divestment
Dear President Todd Saliman and Chancellor Phillip P. DeStefano, We are writing this letter as alumni of the University of Colorado system in solidarity with the student encampment. We demand for the University of Colorado to divest from Israel. We stand in fully solidarity with the Students for Democratic Society and their demands that state: Drop all charges against student protesters and support the right to freedom of speech: This right includes not singling out particular viewpoints for censorship, protecting students from targeted discriminatory harassment and violence, leaving ample space for students to express themselves, and recognizing that armed police on campus endanger students’ safety Divestment: The University of Colorado shall fully divest from any corporations which operate in Israel. Refuse Grants: The University of Colorado shall refuse to accept grants or funding from corporations that contract with the U.S armed forces and terminate any relationships with said corporations. End Study Abroad: The University of Colorado shall terminate their study abroad programs to Israel. Statement: The University of Colorado shall release a statement that condemns Israel and the genocidal actions it has committed against Palestine. Transparency: The University of Colorado will disclose the university’s financial investments. Meeting: CU President Todd Saliman and Chancellor Phillip P. DeStefano, shall meet with alumni organizers and students to discuss a plan to implement the above demands. As former students, we have paid hundreds of thousands into the University of Colorado system that is actively supporting a genocide abroad. We believe that it is our duty as alumni to speak up against the violence that Israel and its supporters have enacted here and abroad, including the violence that students, faculty, staff and alumni have faced when police have shown up to a peaceful demonstration. Students were exercising their constitutional First Amendment right to protest and we are appalled by the actions taken by the University to silence and dismiss the student’s demands while jeopardizing their safety. We will continue to do all in our power to stand with Palestine and the students on Auraria Campus and condemn Israel’s actions and its supporters, including our own alma mater as long as it continues to stand with Israel, even in the face of genocide. Signed,
