Dear fellow community members, We are Bryant Cortes, Ivy Hinh, Kate Breen, and Olivia Mlodinow—first-year Master of Social Work students at California State University, Fullerton, and passionate advocates for our communities. We're asking for your support in calling on the California State Legislature and Governor Newsom to pass Assembly Bill 338 (AB 338)—a critical bill to help wildfire-impacted communities in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties recover, rebuild, and thrive. In January 2025, the Eaton and Palisades Fires destroyed over 55,000 acres, 16,000+ homes and businesses, and took at least 27 lives. Beyond the physical damage, these wildfires have led to widespread mental health crises, school closures, housing shortages, and economic instability.

The NY State Senate needs to approve Senate Bill 2023- S3158. The Assembly approved its version of this legislation, however, since January, 2023, it has been sitting in the Senate Children’s and Family's Committee. The Bill will enact the Child Abuse Reporting Expansion Act, also known as The CARE ACT, which will require clergy members to be reporters of child abuse or mistreatment.  We must contact our NY State Senators and the Governor and ask them to expedite/move this bill forward and sign it into law so that children, and adults, in NY State will be better protected from sexual predators.  The NY Senate must accomplish this as soon as they reconvene in Albany, in January 2025, and have Governor Hochul sign it. The passage of this bill will be the last step that will help reduce sexual abuses by the clergy in NY State.  

Republican members of Congress are pushing a dangerous piece of gun legislation that would gut lifesaving gun laws and make our communities less safe.  The so-called “Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2025"(H.R. 38/S. 65) would force every state to allow individuals from other states to carry concealed and loaded handguns in public. If the gun lobby industry and its allies in Congress get their way, the consequences will be deadly. There would be no stopgap to prevent people with dangerous histories—like those convicted of violent crimes, domestic abusers, and even stalkers—to carry a concealed and loaded gun in public in states that wouldn't otherwise let them.  Add your name to tell members of Congress: oppose any mandate to allow hidden and loaded firearms, everywhere.

President Trump is packing our federal courts with his MAGA allies in order to seize power of our judiciary and protect his right-wing agenda. And it’s no surprise that Trump’s judicial nominations are all handpicked for their loyalty to Trump, platformed to repeat the worst of Trump’s conspiracy theories and lies in order to clear the way for his flagrant power grabs. Trump has turned judicial nominations into a personal loyalty test. A new Demand Justice report uncovers a shocking pattern: every single one of Trump’s 2025 judicial nominees when asked has refused to tell the truth about the 2020 election and the January 6th attack on the Capitol. Senate Democrats must vote NO on every Trump nominee peddling his far-right agenda. Will you sign the petition now? 

Trump has picked his most loyal allies as Cabinet members to enforce his authoritarian agenda and disrupt the most essential services for everyday Americans. He's appointed self-serving people like anti-vaccine conspiracy theorist Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as secretary of health and human services and former Fox News host and white nationalist Pete Hegseth as secretary of defense. The Senate must reject these Cabinet nominees to protect working Americans from the dysfunction our federal agencies will face under the direction of these appointees. We're worth fighting for and we deserve better. We need to pressure the Senate to reject RFK Jr., Hegseth, and any other extremist Trump nominees who will seek to enact Trump's radical Project 2025 agenda.

We are writing as concerned shareholders of a Mitchell-Lama cooperative at Rochdale Village in Jamaica, Queens to urge you to take immediate action to prevent an unfair financial burden from being placed on Rochdale's residents due to a proposed Carrying charge increase. The lowest increase being 22.3% starting as soon as April 2025, and then another 4.5% in 2026. The highest increase is 34.7% starting April 2025, and then another 5% in 2026.  Shareholders are now being forced to shoulder a debt caused by the mismanagement of funds by Summit Management Company, and this increase is not only unjust but also unsustainable for many of us. As you are aware, Mitchell-Lama housing was established to provide affordable housing to working-class New Yorkers, but the ongoing mismanagement and financial instability threaten that very mission. The responsibility for resolving these financial missteps should not fall on the residents, many of whom are already struggling due to the economic impacts of COVID-19. Shareholders who fell behind on their carrying charges due to the pandemic should not be penalized further by rent hikes that they simply cannot afford. We urge you to intervene and work toward a solution that does not place the financial burden on the shareholders. NYC officials must take responsibility and provide relief for those in arrears due to COVID-19 while holding accountable those responsible for financial mismanagement. Additionally, increased oversight of management companies handling Rochdale Village is necessary to prevent future financial mismanagement. We are asking for your leadership in ensuring that Rochdale Village remains an affordable housing option for those who need it most. We know that as the highest elected public officials in NY State that you have used your power to pass legislation to provide $80 million in NY State funding to Mitchell-Lama housing cooperatives in their time of need, in New York's 2024-25 Fiscal Year Budget. (https://nyassembly.gov/Press/?sec=story&story=110102) But we also know that since this funding was passed as part of the New York State budget on April 20, 2024, to our knowledge, not one dollar of aid has been provided to any of NY's Mitchell-Lama Cooperatives that this funding was intended to help. Even Coop City which was publicly promised $51 million in direct state aid has not yet received this aid (https://assembly.state.ny.us/Press/?sec=story&story=110377). We are appealing to you as N.Y. State leaders to take whatever actions are necessary to make sure that these taxpayer funds actually get provided to your largest Mitchell-Lama cooperatives to prevent them from solving their financial burdens on the backs of the very working class New Yorkers that built and supported these communities over many decades. These funds are URGENTLY NEEDED and we are the very people this program was created to help in the first place. Please keep your promises to fight for truly affordable housing in NYC and throughout our great state. Below you will find an explanation of what we know about the financial crisis that our Cooperative is currently facing, which will further explain the need for urgent action by NY State:

We, the parents/guardians of the Tumwater Hill Elementary, request that the School Board direct the Tumwater School District to maintain the 2016-2017-time schedule for 2017-2018 school year. In addition, before the district makes any variations to the time schedule, it shall include employees, parents/guardians, and community members before making any decisions.

The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act of 2021 was introduced in the 117th US Congress on February 24th of this year as H.R.1280. This bill was sponsored by US Representative Karen Bass out of California and co-sponsored by 199 other Democratic Representatives. It took exactly (5) business days for the bill to be voted on in the House. On March 3rd the bill passed with a vote of 220-212. Since then the bill has been in the Senate and today's date, as I compose this petition, is September 15th. Remember this; (5) business days in the House, (7) months and counting in the Senate. According to www.statista.com article; Number of people shot to death by US police published by Statista Research Department, Sep 6, 2021, for the months of March through August of this year, a total of 481 US Citizens have been shot to death by our police. The George Floyd Act could have made a difference for those 481 Americans if our Senate had passed the Bill in a timely manner. How long will it take for our Senators to protect American citizens, especially "people of color" who are being hunted and slaughtered by police? How many more of us will be shot to death by police officers before this bill is passed? For (7) months a bill that could have saved lives has sat in the Senate waiting to be voted on. We know that the stories of many of the women you interviewed were heartbreaking and compelling and that you stood for them and for their physical and emotional health.
