  • Dollar a year bus leasing must end!
I want full public disclosure of bus lease agreements and full disclosure of how much is made privately off these buses leased for one dollar each per year. These buses are cash cows and if we are giving them away we should get much more cash then a dollar. This is obvious corruption.

  • Give Federal Unions Full Bargaining RIghts
It is grossly unfair to federal workers not to negotiate wages, pensions, staffing, and healthcare benefits and premiums while most state and municipal workers can. As a result, new members of Congress seek more and more cuts unaware of the sacrifices of the past. It is also hypocritical for the President and Congress to publicly support bargaining for public employee unions while tying the hands of federal workers. We are demanding a bill to give us those rights ASAP.

  • Demand access to Al Jazeera English
Al Jazeera has won many awards for objective reporting of international news, an area of which Americans are generally ill-informed. The recent purchase of Current TV by Qatar makes it possible for Americans to obtain international news that is currently missing from the airwaves in the US.

  • Stop California FRACKING
It is vital to protect our food supply from pollution. The short term profits of fracking this agricultural area are not worth the permanent destruction of the groundwater that is taken up by all of the crops in this area. Crops from the affected region are consumed throughout the world. We must stand up to the oil companies to protect our food supply.

  • Senate Democrats want to take food stamps away from the deserving
Please contact your Senator to say this should not happen: from http://www.offthechartsblog.org/senator-vitter-offersand-senate-democrats-accept-stunning-amendment-with-racially-tinged-impacts/ In today’s Senate debate on the farm bill, Senator David Vitter offered — and Senate Democrats accepted — an amendment that would increase hardship and will likely have strongly racially discriminatory effects. The amendment would bar from SNAP (food stamps), for life, anyone who was ever convicted of one of a specified list of violent crimes at any time — even if they committed the crime decades ago in their youth and have served their sentence, paid their debt to society, and been a good citizen ever since. In addition, the amendment would mean lower SNAP benefits for their children and other family members. So, a young man who was convicted of a single crime at age 19 who then reforms and is now elderly, poor, and raising grandchildren would be thrown off SNAP, and his grandchildren’s benefits would be cut. Given incarceration patterns in the United States, the amendment would have a skewed racial impact. Poor elderly African Americans convicted of a single crime decades ago by segregated Southern juries would be among those hit. The amendment essentially says that rehabilitation doesn’t matter and violates basic norms of criminal justice.
