Two people died in the gas explosion and another in critical condition. This tragedy could have been prevented. The lives of Colorado citizens and the environment are still in imminent and grave danger due to you allowing the development and operation of oil and gas wells in occupied neighborhoods, elementary schools, playgrounds, public spaces, rivers, hospitals all across Colorado.

Many of the latest proposed changes in the Vacation Rental Ordinance are great, but many of them are not. Ask the PS City Council to reconsider some key items, request that they utilize a third party economic study before implementation of any final decision, and suggest the creation of a mission statement to better define the future of Palm Springs, and how this new vacation rental policy fits into that future.

I’d like to voice opposition and concern regarding Rezoning Petition 2017-159 in Historic Wesley Heights. This petition is not appropriate for our neighborhood, sets an unequivocally bad precedent for further rezoning requests, and puts our small historic district in jeopardy. Please OPPOSE Rezoning Petition 2017-159.

Due to the increased abuse of power by law enforcement, use of SWAT teams or SWAT tactics, as well as continued militarization of local law enforcement, We, the Citizens of Missouri, are petitioning and demanding our legislatures implement the use of cameras on all law enforcement officers including, but not limited to: local police, correctional officers, sheriffs, county deputies, and security guards. We feel that this greater accountability will foster more trust in law enforcement and the courts by the citizens of our state. Studies have shown a reduction in police use of force and formal complaints when officers are required to wear such cameras. Thus there is also a reduction in litigation costs to the taxpayers. One study conducted by Cambridge University in Rialto, CA, showed an 89% reduction in complaints in a single year. We also feel that such legislation will give meaning to the law and secure our First Amendment Rights which include our right to freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and to prohibit interfering with the right to peaceably assemble or petition for a governmental redress of grievances. Additionally, we hope to preserve our 2nd and 4th Amendment rights including the prohibition of unreasonable searches and seizures, the requirement of warrants for searches, and the requirement of probable cause as determined by a neutral judge. Lastly, such legislation should reduce the incidence of brutality, discrimination and profiling based on ethnicity or nationality, gender or gender identity, sexual orientation, and religion. As a member of the Appropriations-Human Services Committee and the Appropriations General Services Committee, I know firsthand that we have a real revenue problem. I've heard from thousands of constituents and their families about fighting for the best budget approach to meet the needs of the 8th district and the entire state. This is why I propose House Joint Resolution Constitutional Amendment 19 . This resolution will increase the revenue of our state by utilizing a graduated tax system. This resolution would be used to provide additional relief to low-income citizens, or to encourage personal future growth such as small business investment or seeking higher education. This shifts the tax burden to those most able to pay, and those with greater influence in society to pay their fair share. This also can protect taxpayers during hard times; for example, when income goes down, the tax rate also goes down. It is clear that the state must do something to assist those in need so that they can achieve maximum self-sufficiency, independence and health through the provision of seamless, integrated services for individuals, families and communities.
