Repeal the California law that encourages parents to be sterilized or use permanent forms of birth control, and requires rape victims to disclose private information if they are to receive basic needs assistance for children resulting from rape. This 20-year-old law pushes the boundary of appropriate governmental intervention, violates the reproductive privacy and autonomy of low-income parents, and pushes poor families even further into poverty.

Just days after Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia shockingly equated homosexuality with murder in an appearance at Princeton University, another troubling revelation has emerged: Scalia’s son Paul, a Roman Catholic priest, has served as chaplain for the Arlington, Virginia chapter of Courage, an official Catholic apostolate that ministers to people with so-called “same-sex attractions” — or what the rest of the world refers to as lesbian, gay, and bisexual people. He has written: “We must always distinguish the person from the attractions. Most errors in this area come from the reduction of the person to the attractions: to say, ‘A person who has homosexual attractions must be homosexual.’ This reduces the human person to the sum total of his sexual inclinations.” This is a frighteningly dehumanizing lie. It is for this reason we ask you to sign this petition that Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia recuse himself from the upcoming Marriage Equality and DOMA cases.

Chief McClelland, Please issue an public apology for the arrest of Landry Thompson, Emmanuel Hund and the other dance instructor as well as Landry's family for the detainment of all three on November 30, 2013 for being together in public. I further request that you suspend the arresting officers who ignored the instructions of all three to contact Landry's family as well as the notarized documentation that they were legally and lawfully in Houston, until a full investigation of how such racial profiling can occur in the Houston Police Department is conducted and made public.

It is time for the Haverhill Cooperative School District School Board to get back on track and remove those board members not representing the best interests of the community they serve.

Each year, over 30,000 Americans are killed as a result of gun violence and each year, thousands of illegally purchased guns make their way into the hands of criminals through "straw purchasers" and corrupt dealers. Prioritize legislation that provides stricter controls on gun trafficking. Let's stop this trend. It might save a life.

dear mr. president: my name is sandra saucedo, i would like to please ask you to push for the loan forgiveness petition . particularly for women that stayed home like me. for i stayed home in order to raise a family, yet still continued to take one class at a time in order to achieve my goal of receiving a degree. however, taking one class a semester took me decades because i dedicated my life to care for my boys and family. now that my boys are older i decided to go back to school full time and get a loan. i am 47 years old and even though i had always worked in and outside my home, i have no retirement plan (because i had always worked part time in order to have time to care for my children) nor a health plan. it is time women that stayed home and contribute to our community, for i had always worked in the pta's of schools, i never missed a field trip and always advocated for children whose parents worked and could not be at school to speak on behalf of their children, should be rewarded and not penalized for staying home while working part time and building a better future for our children that will be an asset to society. staying home also allowed me to made sure my boys learned about art, music and sciences. reasons why my older son was at the age of 12 a youth ambassador in the people to people program promoting peace in the world. my second child was a tutor and all around athlete, and my youngest son is the captain of his soccer team at school and takes university classes in the summer. as i am about to enter my 50s and most of my life has been devoted to my children and family, i continue to go to school and have a huge debt due to my studies that i do not know if i will be able to pay it off and be able to retire by the time i am 65. please advocate for us, for women are the most precious resource of our humanity and in this 21st century we are still treated as second class citizens, as bell hooks eloquently says not only because we are women, but also because we are people of color. family is an important aspect of my culture because home is where values and self esteem are cultivated in order to keep our children away from the jails that are built faster than schools. warmly,sandra saucedo
