  • End Veterans found frozen to death
I would like to propose a jobs program in memory of Bradley Sutter. I propose that Solar heating be installed for the homes of senior veterans as well as homeless shelters for veterans. A senior veteran should not have to choose between heating, food, or medical supplies.

  • Shut Down Carousel Pony Ride and Zoo in Santa Monica
We call on the city of Santa Monica, known for its visionary and progressive policies, to shut down pony rides and petting zoos because these cruel and inhumane exhibits exploit animals for entertainment. • The ponies, tethered tightly to a turnstile, are forced to plod in circles for hours, sometimes in terrible heat, with music blasting next to them at the farmers market. • Petting zoos also subject animals to the stress of transport, unnecessary handling, and crowds of strangers. Baby animals cower in corners to escape the commotion. Horses are specifically excluded from protection under the federal Animal Welfare Act, so it's imperative that local governments intervene to stop animal abuse. Rather than teach children that animals are here for our entertainment and exploitation, let us encourage young people to take nature walks and observe animals in their natural habitats or at sanctuaries. We urge the city of Santa Monica to take a leadership role in the protection of animals.

  • We Want An Audit Of The Social Security Trust Fund
We the American people demand an Audit of the Social Security Trust Fund, complete with monies taken in and monies taken out in any form. Along with detailed information how any monies taken out was spent, i.e.; to include government agencies & civilian agencies (both foreign and domestic) with detailed accounting of exactly how all monies have been used. As well as demand that all monies be repaid per original conditions of the Greenspan Commission or sooner if the need exists to keep our trust fund solvent. Further we demand that all proceedings in these matters be public and that Washington cease and desist from spending any further trust fund monies on anything other than Social Security Administration and payments to eligible retirees and those disabled as soon as possible until this audit of accounting has finished. Washington needs to keep the promises made in 1983 by raising the tax rate on the wealthiest Americans and paying the other 98% of lower income Americans the money they borrowed and in some cases so frivolously spent to the benefit of their corporate donors!

  • WGBH: OUST DAVID KOCH FROM BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Simply stated, Mr. Koch has multiple conflicts of interests with WGBH and WGBH's education, advocacy and public service missions. "David Koch’s resignation as a WNET Trustee, coupled with telling quotes from WNET president Neal Shapiro and other sources, makes it clear that Koch had too much influence at the decreasingly-public TV station in New York.", according to an article published by Greenpeace on May 24, 2013 on Change.org. The article goes on to say that "Mr. Koch was floating a seven-figure donation over WNET’s leadership as the station aired a movie that portrayed him as a particularly greedy Manhattan resident." Finally, the article notes that "Sure enough, WNET didn’t wind up receiving David Koch’s hefty donation." This is DECIDEDLY NOT the kind of "CORPORATE LEADERSHIP" that we need on WGBH, Boston's beloved flagship station.

  • One NJ Principal Takes a Bold Stand Against the Systematic Neglect of Special Education Students ...
Like many public schools across the country, New Jersey's Newark Public Schools are under attack by their own leadership. Many Newark students, residents, and district employees agree on state-appointed Superintendent Cami Anderson's gross mismanagement of the city's schools. Her policies have adversely affected its most vulnerable populations, particularly students with special needs. This year, the projected number of incoming Special Education (SPED) freshmen for Central High School, a comprehensive public high school, increased yet again. This is a direct result of the adoption of Anderson's One Newark Plan, an enrollment system that uses a biased algorithm to carelessly spread students across the district. Current projections indicate there will be 80 new Freshman SPED students, representing 29% of the total incoming Freshmen class, which the school cannot accommodate in compliance with law. The district percentage of special needs is 15%. That makes Central's Freshman SPED population 93% over the district’s average. Ignoring this phenomenon is a blatant attempt to create hardships in comprehensive schools in order for them to fail. Our principal, Sharnee Brown, has boldly taken action to fight this attack on Central High School's students, staff, and community.
