We can't let politics decide district lines!Councilmember Derrick Leon Davis surprised his colleagues by introducing a brand new County Council map. This map had not been seen by many of his colleagues, let alone the general public. It also differed significantly from the draft maps created with public input by the Prince George's County Redistricting Commission. During the meeting, Councilmember Davis refused to answer questions or explain these unnecessary changes. Councilmembers Ivey, Dernoga, Anderson-Walker, & Glaros voted AGAINST the new redistricting map which disenfranchises thousands of Black and Brown voters throughout the county. This surprise redistricting, which passed by only one vote, divides municipalities into multiple districts, and this harms the influence of Black and Brown voters in the electoral process. The lines are not defined by natural boundaries such as municipalities or major roads. This new Redistricting map has also disqualified multiple potential candidates for the County Council in the upcoming election cycle.988 of 1,000 SignaturesCreated by PGChangeMakers Coalition O

Gov. Cuomo: Immediately reverse your attack against nonviolent political action & speechWe demand an immediate reversal of your executive order against the BDS (Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions) movement for justice. BDS is an economic form of political action taken by Palestinian activists and allies to draw attention to the injustices facing Palestinians. Forcing the state to punish peaceful political action and dissent runs against our fundamental democratic principles and has far-reaching consequences for freedom of speech.965 of 1,000 SignaturesCreated by Iram Ali

Change ‘Business as Usual’ at Indian Point Nuclear ReactorThe Indian Point nuclear reactor power generation station is 23 miles north of Manhattan. Its current mismanagement and weak oversight jeopardize the lives of 23 million metropolitan-area residents, including the viability of their environment and their economic prospects. Evidence of mismanagement includes falsified records to appear compliant with requirements for backup power sources, lying about safety inspections, and failure to modernize infrastructure—leaving New Yorkers to face the same aged plant and inherent problems experienced in Fukushima today. We urge the New York Legislature to begin holding public hearings to solicit industry, regulatory, and resident testimony, as well as expert and witness testimony from Fukushima to ensure the safe operation of Indian Point and determine under what conditions to approve another 20-year operating license, and whether Indian Point can operate safely or if it should be shut down. We also urge that the public hearing process be extended beyond October, with multiple meetings held throughout New York State in addition to the two hearings scheduled for September 30 and October 12. Indian Point must implement adequate, verifiable public health and safety preservation measures for its infrastructure, emergency responses, waste disposal, shutdown procedures, and any other aspects of its operation, with public reporting on benchmarks. It should fully and verifiably comply with New York State's Coastal Management Plan, which protects the health of New York State's waterways. And Indian Point should possess valid federal NRC licenses for all reactors in operation. Otherwise, we urge federal and state officials to close Indian Point immediately.102 of 200 SignaturesCreated by James A. Cataldi

Create the First-Ever Marine National Monument in the Atlantic OceanPlease take action to protect all five of New England's "Grand Canyons" (Oceanographer, Gilbert, Lydonia, Nygren and Heezen), four offshore seamounts (Bear, Physalia, Mytilus and Retriever) and the Cashes Ledge Closed Area as a national monument. These unique undersea treasures would become the first marine national monument in the Atlantic and would build on America's global leadership in ocean protection. This historic monument designation will permanently protect a treasure trove of unique and irreplaceable ecosystems that provide refuge for hundreds of species of marine wildlife, including whales, seabirds and long-living cold-water corals. These places are also critical habitat for ocean fish like Atlantic cod, which are the lifeblood of coastal communities and New England's rich culture and traditions. Protecting them will help rebuild these fish populations and the healthy ocean ecosystems we all use and enjoy. New England's ocean wilderness refuges, with their rich biodiversity and largely unexplored beauty, will be lost forever unless they're protected now. Hundreds of leading scientists agree that keeping these places free from commercial activities that extract resources or harm habitat is critical to reverse the decline of the marine environment and restore its health. Research shows that marine reserves are essential to rebuilding species abundance and diversity and increasing resilience to climate change. Our ocean treasures--especially amazing places like New England's Grand Canyons, sea mountains and Cashes Ledge--are important to all Americans. As the nation with the largest exclusive economic zone in the world, the United States has a tremendous opportunity and responsibility to be a global leader in protecting our oceans. While NOAA's recently announced town hall meeting to be held in Providence, Rhode Island, on September 15, 2015, invites discussion of permanent protections for three deep-sea canyons--Oceanographer, Gilbert and Lydonia Canyons--and four seamounts off of New England's coast, we must protect all five offshore Grand Canyons, including Nygren and Heezen, and New England's unique nearshore mountain range, the Cashes Ledge Closed Area. We need to save all of these important places before irreparable damage is done so that our children and grandchildren can enjoy a healthy marine environment. Please protect New England's Grand Canyons, sea mountains and Cashes Ledge as a national monument today.433 of 500 SignaturesCreated by Roger Fleming

Legalize Hemp in Virginia's 61st DistrictThe purpose of this petition is to CALL TO ACTION the House and Senate Representatives of Virginia's 61st district to proactively pursue PRO-HEMP legislation during the 2018 General Assembly. By signing this petition you are acknowledging the egregious overreach of both the Federal & State governments, the department of the DEA & all bureaucratic entities that pursue 'anti-Industrial Hemp legislation' that prosecutes the farmer, imprisons our youth & domineers economic opportunities.15 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Geo Ogburn
