  • Help Stop the Fracking Industry’s Pipeline Race Across Appalachia
We demand a single, comprehensive, regional review of the impacts of all four fracked gas pipelines proposed for the Blue Ridge and Appalachian regions of Virginia and West Virginia: the Atlantic Coast Pipeline, the Mountain Valley Pipeline, the Appalachian Connector, and the WB Xpress project. The only way to understand the true cost of these projects -- to our climate, our health, our safety, or our land and unique natural resources -- is to evaluate them together. Anything short of a single regional review, or Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement, would shirk FERC’s duty under the law and endanger the safety of our communities and climate.

  • Tell Congress to invest in America and stop the budget cuts!
Congress should deliver a federal budget that invests in our people and communities, in the jobs, health, education, housing, roads, and child care that build prosperity for all and prevent poverty. Congress should help all of us, not just the powerful few, by closing tax loopholes that now shift trillions to the wealthy and corporations and by stopping Pentagon waste.

  • Protect consumers from predatory ‘buy now, pay later’ schemes!
The Consumer Financial Protection Board has found that ‘buy now, pay later’ services provided by e-commerce platforms like Affirm, Afterpay, Klarna, and Zip violate consumers’ financial privacy and prey on consumers who may not realize these services do not provide the usual protections afforded to other lines of credit. We urge you to pass legislation protecting consumers from predatory and invasive layaway services!

  • Say NO! To The Inner Harbor Navigation Canal (IHNC) Lock Replacement Project!
I am a Citizen Against Widening the Industrial Canal (CAWIC) in New Orleans, LA. I Say NO! To The Inner Harbor Navigation Canal (IHNC) Lock Replacement Project. 1. U.S. ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS MUST RECOMMEND THE NO-ACTION ALTERNATIVE - This alternative is described in the January 2017 USACE Draft General Revaluation Report (GRR) as Plan 1. 2. DE-AUTHORIZE THE IHNC LOCK REPLACEMENT PROJECT - The United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) must recommend to U.S. Congress that The Inner Harbor Navigation Canal (IHNC) Lock Replacement Project be de-authorized. 3. IF A LOCK IS NEEDED, MOVE IT OUTSIDE THE IHNC– If a new Canal and Lock are ever deemed economically justified and viable to construct, they must be constructed in another, less populated area. The Inner Harbor Navigational Canal (IHNC) already failed twice (during Hurricane Betsy and Hurricane Katrina), and has known toxins traveling through the Canal that expose dangerous hazardous materials to our residents.

  • Extend the Moratorium for Adams County
Dear Commissioners, Please act immediately to extend the current oil and gas drilling moratorium until the November elections, when Colorado has the chance to vote on ballot measures that would provide additional rights and protections for our communities. Adams County residents are now facing the unacceptable dangers of several massive new, polluting, drilling facilities moving closer to more neighborhood homes and schools, jeopardizing the health and safety of families living nearby. Oil and gas production facilities release dangerous toxins and ozone-precursors into the air; place communities at risk for spills, fires, and explosions; and impose unacceptable burdens on residents—such as massive truck traffic, grinding noise, and 24-7 lighting glare. Please do not allow permitting to go forward. Renewing the moratorium is the only way to assure your residents won’t be denied the new protections that the rest of Colorado will benefit from if the ballot measures pass. Please stand up for your residents and extend the moratorium until Election Day or later. Thank you.

  • Restore Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965!
In 2013 the Supreme Court invalidated a key section of the Voting Rights Act (VRA) that had required states with a history of discrimination to have new voting laws approved before those laws took effect. The 5-4 decision in Shelby County v. Holder had an immediate impact for voters across the country as new voting restrictions became a reality. They said Section 5 was too broad and appeared to be no longer needed. This issue was poorly decided as within hours of the decision Texas passed its voter suppression bill in waiting, followed by similar legislation in other red states within weeks. In essence, invalidating Section 5 of the VRA created a voter suppression climate where dozens of states passed a version of voter suppression laws. with ACLU and other entities filing counter lawsuits which take years to adjudicate. I don't think that was the intent of the Supreme Court, so that is why we need Congress to restore Section 5 of VRA in such a form that would be acceptable to the Supreme Court.

  • Tell the Department of the Interior: Don't let Trump destroy Bears Ears!
I strongly oppose the Trump Administration’s unlawful efforts to strip protections for Bears Ears National Monument. If the BLM moves forward with the planning process at this time, it will likely be a colossal waste of time and money for an already strapped agency, as these new proclamations are expected to be overturned by the courts. The BLM should spend its money on protecting Bears Ears and its natural and cultural resources. The BLM should look to the current monument management plan, and strive to protect important and sensitive resources throughout the original proclamation area, including cultural, natural/ecological, paleontological, geological resources, as well as Tribal sacred lands and resources as described in Proclamation 9558 (Dec. 28, 2016). Moreover, the public comment period should extend to at least ninety days following the last public hearing. Public hearings should be scheduled in Salt Lake City, Utah, Flagstaff, Arizona, Denver, Colorado, Washington D.C. and Albuquerque, New Mexico, in addition to the gateway communities of the Bears Ears National Monument.
