Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola: Do not release taxpayer funds to the Little Rock Technology Park ...Do not release taxpayer funds to the Little Rock Technology Park Authority. People have invested in their homes and their neighborhood. They should not be uprooted. It is immoral to tax people in order to displace them. It is immoral to uproot communities to benefit private companies. It is just plain wrong to destroy neighborhoods where people have been working hard to build a future. Not one dime of taxpayer money should go toward the Little Rock Technology Park until the Technology Park Authority agrees to change its plans and build it in a non-residential area.303 of 400 SignaturesCreated by We Shall Not Be Moved Coalition

President Obama: support a nuclear weapons-free world, as promisedThe time has come to ban nuclear weapons, just as the other weapons of mass destruction have been banned. Any use of nuclear weapons--whether by accident, miscalculation or design--would have a devastating humanitarian impact and could lead to a nuclear war. President Obama, take the next step: send a United States delegation to constructively participate in the Humanitarian Impact of Nuclear Weapons Conference, December, 2014 in Vienna.6,791 of 7,000 SignaturesCreated by Physicians for Social Responsibility

Mandatory Sexual Education is Vital For Teens in Our World of 7 BillionThe need for formal and modern sexual education is essential because of our exponentially growing population. The correlation between sexual education and teen pregnancy is striking; according to the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States, when teenagers do not formally receive sexual education they are 50% more likely to become pregnant. By educating teenagers in secondary schools about contraceptives, we can reduce unintentional pregnancies and improve the odds of teenagers having healthy, responsible, and mutually protective relationships with their partner(s).426 of 500 SignaturesCreated by Julia Kinsolving

Governor Haslam: Do not resume executions in TennesseeAs the public moves away from its support of the death penalty, we ask that Tennessee not resume executions. In 2007, a group of Tennessee death penalty experts conducted an assessment of the state’s death penalty for the American Bar Association. Of 93 guidelines for the administration and application of a fair and accurate death penalty system, Tennessee fully complies with only seven. The Tennessee General Assembly then created a committee to further examine the problems. The committee made several recommendations on which no action has been taken. Tennessee’s death penalty system is failing. It has consistently proven to be ineffective, unfair, and inaccurate. To date, over 150 people have been freed from death rows across the country when evidence of their innocence emerged—three in Tennessee. The more we execute, the more likely it is that we will execute an innocent person, if we have not already. When a human life is at stake, there is simply no room for error. We also are concerned that the death penalty fails murder victims’ family members. We believe in policies that serve the needs of these families in the aftermath of a homicide and that promote healing. Yet there is growing evidence that the death penalty may do the opposite; it can prolong victims’ pain and delay healing while appeals and reversals force families to relive their trauma again and again. We find it troubling that the state has moved to make confidential the source of the drugs used for executions. Government transparency is critical when lives are on the line. If we are to resume executions in this state, the public must have access to information about the source of the drugs that are employed. Finally, we write to voice our unease about the way our state’s death penalty diverts funds from other needs. With the pursuit of capital cases costing millions more than the available alternatives and in light of the economic challenges that face our state, the valuable resources that are expended to carry out death sentences would be better spent investing in programs that work to prevent crime, such as improving education, providing services to those with mental illness and intellectual disability, and more resources for law enforcement. We should make sure that money is spent to improve life, not take it. For these reasons, we ask you, Governor Haslam, to halt all executions in order for the Tennessee legislature to review the findings of the Tennessee Committee to Study the Administration of the Death Penalty and to act on its recommendations.2,031 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by Stacy Rector

Demand Amazon Stop Silencing Pregnant and Disabled Employees!Amazon’s profit last year was $30,400,000,000. Their CEO was paid $29,200,000 for a single year’s work - at least 730 times the amount the lowest worker took home! But they refuse to take care of Pregnant and Disabled Employees. “"Put simply, Amazon has exploited pregnant workers and workers with disabilities,” said New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin. “In building a trillion-dollar business, Amazon has flagrantly violated their rights and ignored their well-being – all while it continues to profit off their labor.”” Key allegations: • The State of New Jersey has filed a lawsuit accusing Amazon of systematically discriminating against pregnant workers and workers with disabilities in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). • Amazon denies required accommodations, retaliates against employees who request them, and forces workers onto unpaid leave or out of their jobs to maximize profits. • Thousands of accommodation requests are filed each year, yet workers face discipline, job loss, or financial hardship for asserting their rights. Human impact: A pregnant warehouse worker provided a doctor’s note requesting routine accommodations. Amazon denied them, disciplined her for taking breaks, and forced her to choose between unsafe work or unpaid leave. Similar cases include pregnant workers denied wheelchairs and disabled employees placed on unpaid leave instead of being accommodated. In corporate offices, workers with cancer, strokes, amputations, blood clots, and chronic pain report being denied work-from-home accommodations, even when medically recommended. What workers say: • 93% of disabled employees surveyed said Amazon’s policies harmed them. • Over 600 workers signed a letter demanding compliance with disability and labor laws. How You Can Help 1. Sign this petition to show Congress, Regulators and Amazon Leadership that Disability Rights should be respected 2. Share with friends, colleagues, and community groups. 3. Tell your story in a petition comment. Your experience helps lawmakers understand the human cost of disability Discrimination. It’s important for us to support Amazon workers and use our collective power to hold ultra-rich executives accountable for the unfair treatment of workers. Or Demands are: U.S. agencies NLRB and EEOC and the Civil Rights Office must investigate and punish Amazon for violating federal laws regarding labor rights and disability rights!
