The US Supreme Court has gutted the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Since then efforts across the nation tremendous efforts to implement new restrictive laws that would gut the right of voting to millions of citizens, which is exactly what the Voting Rights Act was meant to protect. Late last week, Representatives Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI) and John Conyers (D-MI) and Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) introduced new legislation—the Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2014—that would strengthen the Voting Rights Act. Efforts to kill this opportunity is genuine and a true uphill effort to restore voting rights is at hand - and must be successful for the benefit of every citizen. We beseech Representative Ann Kirkpatrick to co-sponsor the Voting Rights of 2014 and restore the privilege of democracy and suffrage. Some Republicans are looking to kill any chances of this bill even coming up for debate. The best way to prevent that is to get as much visible support early on. Already, there are nine co-sponsors of this bill—four Republicans and five Democrats. But Rep. Kirkpatrick isn't one of them. Can you help by getting a petition going to Rep. Kirkpatrick?

To the AZ Game and Fish Commission and Department: With only 110 Mexican gray wolves in the wild, they are still very much in danger of extinction. We, the undersigned, respectfully and urgently request that you: 1. Cease opposing new releases of captive wolves into the wild and instead work to ensure that releases of adult wolves are expedited to improve the genetic health of the wild population; 2. End your advocacy for killing and trapping wolves for preying on elk, going outside of political boundaries, and for livestock conflicts; 3. End your advocacy for keeping the wild population down to 300-325 wolves, a number which has no basis in science but will result in wolves above that number being killed or trapped and removed; 4. Desist in efforts to delay and obstruct recovery planning. 5. Respect the peer reviewed science by recognized experts and stop objecting to new populations of wolves in habitats north of I-40; and 6. Honor and fulfill your public trust obligations by representing the best interests of all of Arizona’s wildlife, including keystone carnivores like wolves, all Arizonans, and visitors to Arizona from all over the world, who want these wolves to thrive.

The original constitution embodied three of the four checks and balances that made the League of Six Nations a working democracy founded on understanding and the Law of the Seventh Generation for over 400 years. We want to restore the rights of all citizens to care and share for others. The Council of the Grandmothers was the fourth part of the Sacred Balance of Life that was left out of the constitution by men seeking to take over and control us. We The People seek redress for the theft of not only our rights but our very survival as a species on an interdependent planet. Only when we consider the needs of the fourth to the seventh generation to come, will we have the ability to prevent global warfare and environmental degradation. In view of the planned ACTS Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) project on South Trade Street and the planned realignment of Country Place Drive to be directly opposite of the planned new main entrance to the proposed ACTS facility, I/we respectfully request(s) that the Town of Matthews locate a traffic light and pedestrian crossing lanes at the relocated intersection of Country Place Drive and South Trade. This traffic light is required to support the health and safety of the residential community in the Town of Matthews. The light is necessary because of the addition of the new ACTS main entrance, the heavy traffic flow on South Trade Street, and the increasing amount of pedestrian and cycle traffic following the opening of the Greenway. Furthermore, with the 3-lane configuration of the realigned Country Place Lane facing a divided 4-lane main entrance gate of the ACTS facility and the addition of turning lanes on Trade Street, it will become difficult and unsafe to make a left turn from Country Place Lane onto South Trade Street. Only such a traffic light and dedicated turning lanes on Country Place Drive would permit the save exit from Country Place Drive.

Owing to her retrograde attitude towards President Obama's aspirations early in his first term for a new opening to Cuba (Debbie rhetorically carried water for Republican policies of "Nothing good can come out of Cuba" a la Illiana Ross, L and Rep Diaz Ballart) making one uncooperative pocket within the President's own party. Dealing with her and other Democrats holding retrograde, Cold War views of Cuba meant he could only make his new opening to Cuba rather late in his second term; Perhaps in any even more incriminating political act, last week Debbie teamed up with 27 other Democrats swilling at the corporate troughs that gave Boehner the votes he needed to ram through the fast track on TPP, overwhelmingly rejected 10 days ago by a plurality of Republicans and Democrats. In so doing Debbie thumbed her nose at Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and 90% of her House Democratic colleagues, giving the Republicans this win and working families this loss. This is conduct unbecoming a DNC functionary, in my view.

Scrap the US Forest Service Forsythe II Project, which will damage our local forest without reducing fire danger. Replace it with a minimalist, ecologically sound project, such as the one submitted by Magnolia Forest Group, designed to remove current slash piles and thin 14 year old regrowth instead.

Prop. 66 will increase the risk that California could execute an innocent person by making it more difficult for individuals on death row to introduce newly discovered evidence of their innocence, imposing arbitrary timelines, and requiring inexperienced attorneys to handle complex death penalty appeals.
