Allocate Funding for the development of a Community Recreational Facility for the children and residents of North Durham. THE CASE FOR A COMMUNITY RECREATIONAL FACILITY In recent years the Residential Real Estate Development boom that has resulted in Swanns Mill, Summer Meadows, Briar Greene, Magnolia Point and The Villages have added several thousands of new residences within a one square mile radius, more than half of which have children. Consistent with the principles of Public Interest in ensuring a balance between investment in community infrastructure support to compliment Residential and Population growth and expansion. That there exists a current substantial imbalance in the infrastructure of North Durham when compared with the rate and volume of residential development and population increase. Developers have recently added thousands of residential units, more than half of which have children and seniors and active construction to add more is currently ongoing. Benefits: a) A Community Recreational Facility will provide a safe, secure and well equipped environment for recreational physical activities. b) Such activities would encompass both individual and Team based options as well as a state of the art indoor swimming pool for those residents without one or who would like to learn or access during inclement weather. c) Such ecosystem would allow for healthy social bonding with friends and neighbors and strengthen community ties. d) Such facility would also provide a suitable ecosystem for individual personal development through allowing space for programs like talent shows, Cultural events, Seasonal events, parties, competitions, various games, film viewings and possibly after-school tutoring or workforce skill development. These are just a summary of the most obvious benefits. The full range is infinite. The ways in which such facility could be a community asset to children as well as adults and Senior community members is endless. Every tenant has the right to a safe, secure, and healthy environment in which to live.  The tenants at Nob Hill Apartments in Syracuse, NY, have suffered from constant management turnover, property neglect, and disinvestment leaving their once prosperous community in severe disrepair. This year alone, residents endured months without heat in winter and without hot water in spring; some still lack consistent access to hot water. Elevators frequently break down, trapping seniors and residents with disabilities inside their apartments. Security is also a growing concern: front entry doors in most buildings do not lock, car theft is rampant, and residents report increasing incidents of drug use and violence on the property. The tenants at Nob Hill are not asking for extraordinary conditions, but for basic, dignified, and habitable living spaces. It is the landlord's legal and ethical responsibility to provide these conditions. We stand with the tenants of Nob Hill and, in our united concern for the well-being of all residents, are demanding immediate action to address the unsafe and deteriorating living conditions of their homes.

Support Massachusetts' Safe Communities Act, which would protect the civil rights of all state residents by making sure our tax dollars are not used to help the Trump administration deport immigrant families or create a Muslim registry.

END GUN VIOLENCE. There have been too many instances where both kids and adults have broken into schools and injured and killed both students and teachers. The most recent most fatal ones having been Vladislav Ribnikar in 2023, Robb Elementary in 2022, and Sandy Hook in 2012. In Vladislav, 8 kids and 1 security guard got killed. Many others were injured. In Robb Elementary, 19 students and 2 teachers were killed. Many others were injured. In Sandy Hook, 20 children and 6 adults were killed. Many others were injured. Although those are the most recent and most deadly ones, believe it or not there are school shootings around the world almost EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. And who do we have to blame? Our horrible gun laws. I can speak from experience, a kid brought a gun to my school about a year ago and tried to shoot it up but was caught before he was able to. I go to a charter school. They’re supposed to be safe. SAVE THE LIVES OF OUR CHILDREN. SAVE THE LIVES OF ADULTS AND EDUCATORS. SAVE LIVES OF EVERYONE.
