  • Governor Cuomo: Ban Fracking Statewide!
Ban fracking (hydraulic fracturing, a toxic method of natural gas exploration) within New York State borders. The companies that extract our natural gas will be shipping it overseas to areas which will pay much higher prices than the U.S. would, raking in extraordinary profits, devastating our land, soil, and water, and impoverishing local economies.

  • Congress: End Federal Budget Sequestration
Limiting growth in basic research is fundamentally inconsistent with a healthy and viable economic development agenda. A swift resolution to sequestration will improve American competitiveness, which is vital for maintaining the United States' authority as a global power throughout the 21st century.

  • We need more ADA-compliant buildings and walkways! The Infrastructure bill was just signed into law!
There are still a lot of buildings, doorways, and walkways here in Metro Denver which are non-ADA compliant: They still have no elevators between floors; no buttons to push for opening doors for walkers and wheelchairs; and no ramps for entry and for exit, only stairs. I am disabled and I use a walker. It is very difficult to deal with non-ADA compliant buildings, both for business/ shopping and for apartments. This is ableism at its worst. The Infrastructure bill was just signed into law yesterday by President Biden. Please remember us disabled/ impaired people on walkers and in wheelchairs. It is a human right for us to have proper access to buildings and walkways, as per the Americans With Disabilities Act.

  • Request for Relocation of the rental Boat “The Mistie Dawn”
We, the undersigned members and supporters of the Salt Springs community, respectfully request the removal of the boat “The Mistie Dawn”, which is anchored 24/7 in front of Salt Springs. This boat, primarily used for rental purposes and often left empty, is causing significant concern among local residents for the following reasons: 1. Environmental Impact: The community is concerned about the potential environmental damage the boat may cause to the fragile ecosystem of Salt Springs. There are reports that solid waste may be dumped into the water, which threatens the water quality and the health of the environment. 2. Disruption to the Sanctuary: Salt Springs is a cherished natural sanctuary, valued for its serenity and beauty. The constant presence of a large, empty boat detracts from the natural landscape and disrupts the experience for both residents and visitors who come to enjoy the springs. 3. Impact on Wildlife: The boat’s continuous anchorage could negatively affect local wildlife, potentially disturbing habitats and breeding areas of native species. Protecting the natural habitat of Salt Springs is of utmost importance to our community. 4. Commercial Use in a Protected Area: The boat is being rented out, raising concerns about the commercialization of a protected area. This use does not align with the values of our community or the intended purpose of the springs as a natural sanctuary. 5. Community Discontent: The boat belongs to an individual who does not reside in our town, and its constant presence has caused widespread dissatisfaction among local residents. We believe that the boat’s anchorage in front of the springs is not in the best interest of our community or the natural environment. Proposed Solution: We believe that the boat should be relocated to the marina, where it can be properly anchored and managed without causing harm to Salt Springs or disturbing the community. The marina is a more appropriate location for the boat, as it is designed to accommodate such vessels and would minimize the environmental and visual impact on the springs. Given these concerns and the proposed solution, we urge the relevant authorities to take immediate action to relocate the boat to the marina and ensure that Salt Springs remains a protected and pristine natural area for all to enjoy. We appreciate your attention to this matter and look forward to your prompt response. Sincerely, Friends Of Salt Springs. friendsofsaltsprings.org [email protected]

  • Defend the science and scientists that keep the public safe!
SAVE SCIENCE, SAVE LIVES    President Trump, and his anti-science allies who want to implement Project 2025, are waging an all-out war on science and scientists.   His cabinet members and advisors are loyalists committed to rolling back science-based safeguards that protect public health and the environment. He and his staff are already working with corporate polluters to intimidate scientists and sideline science, endangering communities, people, and the planet.   UCS is prepared. Please join us as we mobilize science supporters, scientists, and experts in signing an open letter asking Congress to stand up against attempts to politicize or eliminate scientific roles, agencies, and federal research that protect our health, environment, and our communities.  With your help we will fight these political attacks on government scientists and experts, stop suppression of scientific research, and defend against other anti-science action in the Project 2025 agenda.  When science and scientists are sidelined, people get hurt—join the tens of thousands of people who have signed the open letter.  This letter is open to all US residents, at home or abroad.

  • Kentucky Public Service Commission: Deny KEP's Rate Increase
Tell the Kentucky Service Commission to reject Kentucky Electric Power's (KEP)proposed 12% rate increase. KEP says this will let them complete their purchase of half interest in Ohio Powers' Mitchell power plant, located in Moundsville, WV. But both KEP and Ohio Power are subsidiaries of AEP. Selling power generated at this plant to Kentucky customers would cost AEP nothing. And KEP has already been granted a 17% increase in their rates. Increasing KEP's rates will do nothing but further enrich AEP at the expense of Kentucky Customers.
