Why is this important?
Millions of Kentuckians are feeling the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic, which have been exacerbated by the Trump administration's ineptitude and mismanagement. Dozens are already known to be sick, and many more are out of work, struggling with childcare, caring for loved ones, or facing a number of other hardships.
In this time of crisis, our leaders should be putting the needs of our families and communities first. Senators like Mitch McConnell should be championing legislation that puts people before profits, and works to provide immediate and comprehensive public health and economic relief for all of us. Instead, on Sunday, March 22, Sen. McConnell voted for a bill in the Senate that would have created a no-strings-attached $500 billion slush fund for corporate giveaways.
As the coronavirus pandemic continues to worsen, and Congress debates and votes on new legislation to tackle the crisis, Sen. McConnell needs to put people first, not the bottom line of corporations. He must vote for legislation that will provide relief to working people and families.
