Senators: Pass the HEROES Act

Months into the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent economic fallout, the Senate still hasn’t taken action at the scale needed to protect and support working people. While big corporations and Trump/GOP donors made out with billions in the first rounds of relief legislation, everyday people across the U.S. are still suffering. The Senate needs to take action urgently and pass the HEROES Act without delay to get working people the relief they desperately need.

Why is this important?

The coronavirus pandemic has had a devastating impact on lives and livelihoods all across the U.S. With over 100,000 dead and 40 million unemployed, the scale of this crisis is hard to grasp.

And yet, the GOP-led Senate has failed to take action that meets the needs that so many of us are facing in this moment. On May 15, the House of Representatives took the first step and passed the HEROES Act, a comprehensive bill that includes much needed relief, protections, and funding for states & localities, essential workers, immigrants, and more.

Now it’s the Senate’s turn to action and pass the HEROES Act immediately.
By providing money for state and city governments, this bill will save jobs and help fund essential services like schools and fire departments. By providing direct stimulus payments, it will provide some relief to millions.

By providing protections for essential workers, it will ensure that those keeping our country going can have their health, well-being and finances taken care of.

But even before the bill was passed, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell was already downplaying the crisis and the need for relief, saying “I don’t think we have yet felt the urgency of acting immediately” when asked about passing more legislation.

The tens of millions of unemployed workers are feeling the urgency of this crisis.
The people waiting for hours in lines outside food banks are feeling the urgency of this crisis.

The essential workers putting their lives on the line without the protection and equipment they need are feeling the urgency of this crisis.

And if we take action together, we can make sure that our Senators feel the same urgency that so many of us, all across the U.S., are feeling.

Sign the petition and call on the Senate to pass the HEROES Act without delay.
