Sign the petition: End Trump administration’s dangerous Title IX rule now

The Biden administration has announced plans to undo the Trump Administration’s attack on student survivors and create a Title IX rule that supports the civil rights of all students. The not-so-good news? The Department of Education doesn’t plan to propose fixes to Betsy DeVos’s Title IX rule until May 2022—nearly a year from now.

We need action on Title IX now. Survivors can’t wait.

Why is this important?

Fifty percent of all sexual assaults on campus occur between August and Thanksgiving break. That's why we can't wait until May for the Department to start the long process of changing the Title IX rule.

The current 2020 Title IX regulation requires survivors to undergo uniquely burdensome procedures when their schools investigate their sexual harassment complaints--procedures that aren’t required for school investigations of any other type of student or staff misconduct-- and that’s blatantly discriminatory. If the Biden administration waits to propose changes to the DeVos Title IX rule until next May, survivors could continue to be harmed under the rule for two more years, or even more.

Students can’t wait that long to undo this harmful policy. Students are going back to school and they are at risk now. They don’t have the luxury of waiting for slow change.
