Smaller Class Sizes in SUSD
Stop the high increase in class sizes in the Saugus Union School District!
Why is this important?
We moved our family to the area so that our children could attend a strong public school in the Saugus Union School District. It is very disappointing that the board has approved a class increase of 28:1 in TK-3rd grade, and 31:1 in 4th-6th grades, and this is not a hard cap. Not only are the TK-3rd grade class sizes well above the state average of 22:1, but also there is virtually no classroom aide support for TK and Kindergarten, and absolutely no support in the other grades. With nearly 30 five and six-year-olds in a class, a teacher will struggle to provide the educational, social, and emotional support necessary to our children. The high class size also poses a safety concern, especially in the younger grades where the children are not yet self-sufficient. Smaller class sizes are known to correlate to student success. Our children's education should be the board's top priority, and this class increase is unacceptable.
