To: Rep. Donald Payne (NJ-10)

Social Security and Medicare are off the table

We demand that Rep. Payne take bold action and fulfill the progressive legacy of his father and predecessor by standing firm against cuts to the benefits Americans have earned and contributed to throughout their working lives. Over a dozen members of Congress have signed a letter to President Obama promising to "vote against any and every cut to Medicare, Medicaid, or Social Security benefits." We ask Rep. Payne to join them.

Why is this important?

Elections have consequences and one result of President Obama's decisive victory is the rejection by American voters of any move to penalize the Middle Class for mistakes by the 1% by offering up cuts to the social safety net - *our* return on *our* investment - to offset the problems caused by unneeded tax-cuts and unfunded wars. Social Security and Medicare are off the table.
