SOS - Jefferson County WV

Victory! The creator of this petition declared the campaign a success. You can still sign the petition to show support.

We the people of Jefferson County, WV ask the Jefferson County Commission and the Secretary of State of WV to deny any formal requests of any paper becoming the Paper of Record for Jefferson County of WV. The Spirit of Jefferson County is "the Paper of Record". It is time we keep our money where it belongs -- in our own county.
And we hold our elected officials responsible and let them know...WE ARE WATCHING.

Why is this important?

A "Paper of Record" belongs to the community they serve.

Josh Compton, President of Jefferson County Commission, who should be supporting every effort to keep hard earned tax money within Jefferson County, and support all small businesses, seems to be doing the opposite, by inviting to give away our money to another city and county, which would benefit no one in our community, and hurt a small local business. This is his chance to listen to the people of Jefferson County.

We are the voices in our government! Sign this petition and let our elected officials know we are paying attention and our ask is simple:

We respectfully have asked the WV Secretary of State's office to reject any request to allow any other paper than The Spirit and Farmers Advocate to be the Record of Paper for Jefferson County. We respectfully ask the JC Commission to reject any request to allow any motion that is not a local paper serving our county. Support local business. Keep our money in Jefferson County.

The Spirit of Jefferson and Farmer's Advocate is an independent, weekly newspaper covering Charles Town and Jefferson County, WV. This paper is the longest standing paper in West Virginia and it is the paper which serves Jefferson County. Originally two separate papers, "The Spirit of Jefferson", first published in 1844, and "The Farmer's Advocate", first published in 1890. These papers merged in 1948.
