Stop Cutting Our Social Security Benefits
This petition is in opposition to President Obama's proposal to use the "chained CPI" to change the way cost of living increases are calculated for Americans dependent on Social Security. The "chained CPI" falsely assumes as prices grow higher, people will just find lower cost alternatives so that their cost of living doesn't increase as quickly. But ask anyone who has paid rent, bought prescription drugs, or paid for health care how easy it is to find lower cost alternatives. Democrats don't want it, Republicans didn't ask for it, and Americans are hurt by it. Using the "chained CPI" is a terrible idea that should be rejected.
Why is this important?
Cutting Social Security benefits does nothing to help the people of the United States. Tell President Obama and your fellow members of Congress you do not support, and they should not support, cuts in Social Security.
