Government forces are continuing to persecute Muslim minority in Burma’s Rakhine state. Security forces have raped and killed members of Rohingya group and arrested hundreds of innocent people. United State Government should impose sternest sanctions and send a strong message to Burmese Government that it would not tolerate further abuse of the helpless people. Why is this important?
Myanmar has a Buddhist majority. The Muslim minority in Myanmar mostly consists of the Rohingya people and the descendants of Muslim immigrants from India (including what is now Bangladesh) and China (the ancestors of Chinese Muslims in Myanmar came from the Yunnan province), as well as descendants of earlier Arab and Persian settlers
