STOP ORGANIZATIONS FROM CHARGING HIGH FEES ON DEBIT CARDS FOR THE POOR, LIKE USDIRECT EXPRESS

STOP IT, I SAY!
Consumer advocates say the high costs wipe out most of the benefits of using prepaid cards. "Those fees are assessed on consumers who cannot afford to be nickel and dimed," says Kenneth Edwards, policy counsel at the Center for Responsible Lending.

I am Denise Newton Fitzpatrick, a victim of illegal housing discrimination as proven in a court of law, along with my son. As Advocates for the mentally ill and also the homeless in regards to illegal housing discrimination and an Activist and Motivational Speaker for Fair Housing, I want to say that many people in the vulnerable community are using the green, USDIRECT EXPRESS CARD in order to receive their monthly income benefits like, retirement, supplemental security income ("S.S.I.") and the like. The high fees are running rampant and many people who receive their benefits on this card are not clearly understanding what many perceive as being, trickery hard to understand fee terms associated with such card. These consumers check to see the balances of money on their card and what they see are high fees subtracted from their monies. The fees are outrageous, and leave many confused, very frustrated, sad and are left with feelings of being cheated of their monies that are very much needed to "try" and make ends meet. Many of these people are victims of illegal housing discrimination and are in need of affordable housing that there is not much of. They do not need to have what money they do have to be stripped away due to high fees that are associated with the above card and cards similar that charge very high fees. These high fees need to be stopped!!!!

Why is this important?

People who use prepaid debit cards, are normally low-income consumers collecting government benefits, and should be protected from these high fees. Many are members of a protected class by Federal Statutes to include older people who are of a protected class and many who are not of such class. These people on a large scale do not clearly understand what is happening to their monies. The explanations that are associated with the charging of these outrageous fees are just not easy for many to understand. They need their monies extremely bad, to try and make ends meet. It is not easy in a world of hate where people are out to see and find joy in seeing the suffering of others. The rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer. Illegal housing discrimination and affordable housing hard to find, homelessness everywhere were many good people have fallen on hard times, Guardians of the mentally ill who are stripping them of their S.S.I incomes giving them 0 to low of their monies, homeless people living in tents, sleeping on bus stops, in laundromats and other forms of sufferings. Those in this group of people are suffering hard enough and do not in any way need these high fees associated with the card as mentioned above. It needs to be put and end to. Stop it, I say!
