Stop the Assault on Gaza – Call for an immediate Cease-Fire and an end to the subhuman conditions...

Dear President Obama and Congress,

We write out of horror over the recent mass indiscriminate civilian killings in Gaza. We call on you to immediately act to broker a ceasefire and stop supporting militarily, financially and diplomatically Israel's ongoing siege and invasion of Gaza and the subhuman conditions, death, and destruction that results.

Although collective punishment has gone on for years, this past month Israel has escalated collective punishment tactics on the Palestinian people in the West Bank and Gaza over the loss of three Israeli boys without any proof as to who is responsible. Israel's air and ground offensive is devastating Gaza a highly populated area where civilians are trapped due to the blockade and have nowhere to go to escape danger. In the last week Israel's air and ground offensive has killed over four hundred Palestineans. According to the UN, 75%, the overwhelming majority of the casualties, have been civilian deaths. Over one hundred children have been killed, many more have been injured and the numbers grow by the hour. Hospitals and humanitarian workers are overwhelmed. The trauma, devastation, and terror experienced by civilians trapped in Gaza is unacceptable.

We call upon the U.S. to use its influence and withhold its military and financial support of Israel until they agree to an immediate cease-fire,and end the blockade on Gaza and the subhuman conditions in the occupied territories. This is the least that international law and respect for human rights require.

Signed,

Why is this important?

As Americans, we can put a stop to the collective punishment of the Palestinean people by applying pressure on Israel (which our government funds and defends). 75% of all those killed by Israel's offensive have been innocent civilians. Thousands are injured and have lost loved ones, their homes, their hope. Hundreds of thousands are living in terror with no ability to seek safety or protect themselves or their children from danger.
