Eight years ago, ExxonMobil promised shareholders that it would stop supporting climate denial through political contributions. It hasn't (No surprise there, eh?!). A new report shows that ExxonMobil has continued to fund both the ultra-conservative, climate-denying lobbying group ALEC, as well as climate-denying legislators in Congress. Senator Richard Burr is one of those, receiving at least $12,000 in contributions from ExxonMobil since 2007. It's time for Burr and all our politicians to give that money back, and Move to Amend the Constitution that corporations aren't people, reform the election process to get money out of politics and prosecute Exxon and other fossil fuel companies for racketeering and crimes against humanity, NOW!
Why is this important?
We have come to a point in our Earth's history where we need action on climate change and the influence of money and corporations in our politics. It is going to kill us, and already is, in a slow and violent way. The data coming in from the scientific community is dire with impacts occurring soon and accelerating with time. We have to act, now, like our very survival depended on it. These issues tie together nicely in this MoveOn petition I helped create.
