Tell Congress: End subsidies to US rice farmers now

End subsidies to U.S. rice farmers now

Why is this important?

In 2010, a catastrophic earthquake devastated Haiti, killing hundreds of thousands of people, and displacing more than 2 million others. Two years after the devastating earthquake, Haiti is still struggling to rebuild.
Right now, Congress is debating the 2012 Farm Bill. Continuation of subsidies to US farmers, including US rice farmers, is one key item on the agenda. Ending these subsidies would save US taxpayers billions of dollars, and would be an important first step towards sustainable economic development in Haiti.
The Senate has already passed a Farm Bill that eliminates these subsidies and now the debate has moved on to the House of Representatives. Ending these unfair subsidies now is an opportunity to eliminate a policy that has undercut Haitian rice farmers for decades. This would be an important first step towards sustainable economic development in Haiti.
Tell our leaders in Congress that ending subsidies to US rice farmers will help Haitians rebuild and recover.
